There are times in everyone’s life when a certain day or event sticks in your mind. Events unfold whether good or bad and if significant can often be traced back with retrospect to show you a defining moment which has become indelibly stamped on your memory forever. One such defining moment can be traced back to a cold January day back in 2002.

I was invited to a small get together in Liverpool to hear about a new business that was in development and due to go live a few months later. Showing me the blueprint was a friend I had met a number of times through business during the previous year or two and as such held in high regard, so I was happy to listen. The business was VWD’s elottery and the guy laying out his plans was VWD co-founder Len Fitzgerald.

What struck me immediately was not the simplicity of the business idea but the thought that had gone into the implementation of the business and how from day one it was going to be loaded in favour of it’s members.
